Cassia van der Hoof Holstein

Cassia van der Hoof Holstein is an Emerson Fellow of the Emerson Collective. Most recently, she served as Chief of Staff to Dr. Paul Farmer and Chief Global Health Delivery Partnership Integration Officer for Partners In Health (PIH), and currently serves on the organization's Board of Directors. Cassia chairs the Board of Directors of Plus One (, which grew out of the Arcade Fire/PIH partnership that adds $1 to the price of each concert ticket to support PIH’s work in Haiti. 

She also serves as a Director of PIVOT (, a health care delivery non-profit in Madagascar; of the New Senior Investment Group (NYSE: SNR); and as a Global Health Advisor to the Clinton Global Initiative. With Abbey Gardner, she edited Haiti After the Earthquake. Previously, Cassia was the Director of Rural Health at the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI), where she also led CHAI’s Clinical Consortium and was their founding country director in Malawi. She is a former Executive Producer at E*TRADE Financial; and a founder of She has worked in technology consulting for clients including Microsoft, AT&T Wireless, and Cassia studied Literature at Harvard, and got her start in global health in Senator Kennedy’s Poverty Issues office.
